Our View: Seat Roland Burris and Dump Harry Reid as Senate Leader
Sen. Harry Reid has been a public relations disaster as Senate Majority Leader. Recent revelations that he stuck his nose into the cesspool surrounding the appointment of a replacement for President Elect Obama is just the latest in a long series of dumb moves that have allowed Reid to display more personal pique than any real skill as putative leader of Democrats in the US Senate. Roland Burris is a capable, accomplished and decent man who Sen. Reid has convicted of guilt by association.
While it's great to see the timid Mr. Reid finally convict somebody of something--after letting Bush/Cheney/Gonzales/Rumsfeld high crimes go unchallenged--we would prefer that it be somebody who has actually does something wrong. And, so far, Sen. Designate Burris is making Sen. Reid look like the freshman in handling the tricky situation in Illinois.
So we say: Seat Roland Burris and Dump Harry Reid!

l couldn't agree more.
Reid will cave on this--as he has on everything else. Burris will be seated.
But to make this the issue to fight over is stupid and petty. Reid needs to go and one wonders how he ever got the job in the first place.
He presents a horrible image for the party.
I've heard people say that Reid is good behind the scenes. I don't know if that is true, but if it is, it would seem a different position - maybe whip - would better suit him.
Majority Leader is necessarily a very pubic position, and Reid can't relate to the public to save his life. I agree completely that he has been a disappointment. He says he intends to stick around in the position until 2015 - God help us if he does.
