Palin Convention Speech Big on Resentment, Short on Policy
Gov. Palin is a good speaker, but her belittling and personal style (full of that Reagan-like resentment) was very short on policy. So much anger below the surface--like a George Wallace speech from the late 60's-- and the cheap shot stuff on community organizers--why not go after law profs, or State Senators, while you're at it? This is old style conservative populism, which has always flirted with right-wing extremism throughout American history. This angry style puts her extremist separatist links in sharp focus: this is someone to be feared.
Palin Defends Experience, Attacks Obama in Convention Speech
By Kristin Jensen and Catherine Dodge
Sept. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin defended herself against attacks of inexperience, saying her job as a small-town mayor compares favorably to work done by Democrat Barack Obama.
``Since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves,'' Palin, 44, said tonight at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. ``I guess a small- town mayor is sort of like a `community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities.''
